Picture: PARLIAMENT OF FIJI /FT FILE Fijian Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is expected to deliver his 2021-2022 national budget address this evening. According to an advisory by the Fijian Parliament Civic Education and Media Unit, the debate for the national budget will be held from July 26 to Jul7 30, 2021. Parliament sittings will be conducted virtually with Members of Parliament either attending in-person or connecting remotely. Meanwhile, the access to the parliament complex for the July sittings of Parliament will be limited only to Members of Parliament, authorised Government officials, authorised caucus and Parliament staff with strict adherence to all the COVID-safe measures and protocols in place nationwide.

This is according to a statement by the Fijian Parliament Civic Education & Media Unit. The statement said following the latest statement by the Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services yesterday, Sunday, April 25, 2021, the public is hereby advised that the Parliament shall fully adhere to all the life-saving health directives/restrictions/measures put in place. It also states that Parliament Standing Committee meetings at Parliament are suspended until further notice however, any approved Standing Committee meetings shall be conducted virtually.

The February Parliament sitting begins today and according to the Fijian Parliament Civic Education & Media Unit only Members of Parliament, authorised Government officials, authorised media personnel, special guests invited by the Speaker of Parliament and caucus and Parliament staff are the only ones allowed to access the Parliament complex. The Unit added that these measures are in support of physical/social distancing as a result of COVID-19 and in line with the Ministry of Health advisory. Meanwhile the Parliament sitting will continue to be aired live on Parliament TV, website and Parliament Facebook page.
