VMI junior Gavin Jenkins finished his season Friday night at the NCAA Regional in Jacksonville.
The Chester Gap native placed 30th overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:10.16, eighth in the second heat of the event.
“I could not be prouder of Gavin’s progress and work over all three seasons this year,” said VMI Director of Track and Field Darrin Webb. “It is a very tough challenge to peak three times during one academic year, but he had three outstanding championships this year. He finished this year with a school record time of 8:44 in the steeple and a 14:02 in the 5k, two second-place finishes at the SoCon outdoor championships and of course qualifying to the NCAA Regional. These are all great accomplishments

Looking for continued improvement preparing for the SoCon Championships, the VMI track and field teams performed well on the first day of the VMI Winter Classic Friday afternoon at the Corps Physical Training Facility.
Senior Ariana Ruffin came in first in the women’s 400 meter in 57.08 and was followed by juniors Marissa Linkous in second (58.98) and Ahliyah Williams in third at 59.48 seconds.

The VMI track and field teams showed continued improvement wrapping up the second day of competition at the VMI Winter Relays held Saturday at the Corps Physical Training Facility.
Senior Ariana Ruffin earned a first-place finish in the women’s 200-meter in 24.85 seconds and teammate Nia Vaughan came in seventh overall in 27.01.

The VMI track and field teams showed continued progress at the fourth annual VMI Team Challenge at the Corps Physical Training Facility.
Senior Jonathan Gray placed second overall in the men’s 400-meter with a time of 49.93 seconds. Earlier in the day he arrived in sixth place in the 200-meter with a time of 22.35 seconds, which placed first in his heat.
