COVID-19: Lhasa tightens virus restrictions

The Tibetan capital yesterday tightened COVID-19 restrictions, while cities in China’s Hainan Province extended lockdowns.
Under China’s updated “zero COVID-19” policy, local governments have imposed short lockdowns and barred people from unnecessary movements for a few days or weeks until COVID-19 clusters were contained within narrower areas.
Such lockdowns are seen as less painful than the two-month virus battle fought by Shanghai in the spring, but the spread of the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 across China might lead to more cities made subject to such measures along with the potential disruption to local businesses.

Frontiers | Geological and Geochemical Characteristics of the Terrestrial Lower Jurassic Shale in Tarim Basin and its Favorable Exploration Areas

Large amounts of conventional gas resources originated from terrestrial Lower Jurassic shale were discovered in Tarim Basin, indicating promising exploration prospects for shale gas resources, whereas limited understandings were obtained on the geological and geochemical characteristics of the Lower Jurassic shale In this study, based on cores of exploration wells and field outcrops, TOC pyrolysis, microscopic composition, organic elements, vitrinite reflectance, X-ray diffraction and methane isothermal adsorption experiment were carried out on Lower Jurassic shale in Tarim Basin. The results show that the TOC content of shale is relatively high, but the TOC content of shale in different regions is quite different. Among them, the Kuqa Depression is the highest (more than 3%), the Southwest Tarim Basin is second (more than 1%), and the East Tarim Basin is the lowest.
