Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington is in the midst of a three-year plan to update the grounds of the complex. As seen on April 13, the large red pines have been removed and areas will be grassed with new shrubs and trees planted this spring or fall.

FARMINGTON Everyone seems to be spring cleaning and there are several upcoming events that will help you clear out, including getting rid of old medications or hazardous waste, plus the annual Town and Road clean-ups. And spring banners are now a welcome sight around town.
Farmington TD Bank closing
The community has had a bank downtown for over 100 years. Currently is a TD Bank, but they decided to close our branch as of April 23. This is a loss for everyone who banked there, especially those who were within walking distance and don’t have transportation to a different location. It’s also a loss, for those of us who frequented this bank, of the great staff who worked there for so long. Here’s a special shout out to Angela, Tammie, Nancy H., Nancy W., and Kathy. FARMINGTON The campus surrounding Franklin Community Health Network contains acres of tall red pine trees. These trees were planted in the 1940s with the intent to harvest for lumber at maturity. The trees were planted close together, which has made them prone to disease because they were not harvested as intended, according to a news release from the nonprofit health network.
In 2017, Franklin received a Forest Pathologist’s assessment from the Maine Forest Service regarding the general health of the red pine trees on the campus. The 2017 report and subsequent assessments have determined that many of the red pine trees are prone to two common diseases (Diplodia tip blight and Sirococcus shoot blight), as well as insect infestations by various native bark beetles that contribute to tree health decline.
