German team withdraw from Antalya Grand Slam after COVID-19 cases in Georgia

The German Judo Association (DJB) has confirmed its withdrawal from the International Judo Federation’s (IJF) Grand Slam in Antalya in Turkey as several athletes remain in isolation after testing positive for coronavirus.
The DJB said the judokas became infected at a training camp in Georgia ahead of the recent Tbilisi Grand Slam, forcing the German team to pull out of the event.
According to the DJB, five team members remain in quarantine in Tbilisi and will not be able to return home until they have tested negative. ....

What an extraordinary ippon against Anka Pogacnik (SLO). We know that the Slovenian women are very resistant and their physical and tactical judo style is high-performing. Yesterday, though, Gulnoza was on fire. For sure, fighting at home gave her extra motivation, but all day she was creating beautiful judo, generous and with the desire to throw all opponents. When she couldn’t, she did everything to resist, like in the semi-final against former world champion ARAI Chizuru. The lack of experience was one of the factors that, in the end, offered the Japanese judoka the possibility to continue on her way to the final. Nevertheless, Matniyazova made history by being the first female ....

Doha: Since the resumption of the World Judo Tour at Grand Slam Hungary, last October, the judo world had been eagerly waiting for the launch of the new season. With the Doha World Judo Masters which begins today, this has been made possible, thanks to Qatar. The draw for Doha World Judo Masters – the 2020 Tokyo Olympics qualifying event took place at the Lusail Multipurpose Hall yesterday. With tight regulations in place as per the Ministry of Public Health guidelines, the Qatar Judo & Taekwondo Federation and the International Judo Federation have ensured a much looked forward to event. IJF President Marius Vizer thanked The Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani during his welcome speech on the occasion of the draw, which was held entirely online. ....
