Public washrooms urged for Broadway Subway stations

The remaining four new stations will have single-occupancy washrooms accessible from public areas of the stations, but only with the assistance of a SkyTrain attendant, similar to the existing procedure on the SkyTrain network.
But in a motion that will be discussed by city council next week, Wiebe writes that all new stations should include universally accessible, public gender-neutral washrooms.
He is also taking issue with the number of elevators in the stations. Only Broadway-City Hall Station and Arbutus Station will have paired elevators reaching every level of the station. The inclusion of a secondary elevator is seen as necessary to provide additional capacity and redundancy whenever elevators are out of service for maintenance. ....

About 180 Canada Line workers will be in a legal strike position at 4 p.m. today.
That s led TransLink to issue a warning to passengers to prepare for possible disruptions to service.
TransLink is working with Coast Mountain Bus Company to monitor customer volumes. They may increase service on some existing routes, if necessary, the regional transportation authority said in a statement.
The Canada Line runs from Waterfront Station in downtown Vancouver to Richmond-Brighouse Station in Richmond.
A branch line extends from Bridgeport Station to Vancouver International Airport.
There will be no job action on the Millennium, Expo, and Evergreen Extension lines because those workers are represented by a different union. ....

TransLink's concept for rail transit along Fraser River from Vancouver to Coquitlam

Examples of DMU include the Union Pearson Express in Toronto, and the Trillium Line in Ottawa.
Union Pearson Express at Toronto Pearson International Airport. (Toronto Pearson International Airport)
Not only did the study have a direct comparison for DMU between Braid Station and Coquitlam Town Centre Station, but it considered a full-fledged line running along much of Canadian Pacific’s (CP) railway corridor along the Fraser River.
This DMU rapid transit line would start at a new interchange hub station next to the Canada Line’s Marine Drive Station, running south along Yukon Street to reach the CP rail corridor. It would then continue along the rail corridor through South Vancouver, passing through River District (East Fraserlands), and into South Burnaby and New Westminster, before reaching Coquitlam. ....

35 SkyTrain facts marking the 35th birthday of SkyTrain (PHOTOS, VIDEOS)

Here are 35 factoids on the history of SkyTrain and how the system works:
1. The name “Expo Line”
The Expo Line, as we currently know it, was previously simply known as just “SkyTrain.” The original train system only acquired the name of Expo Line in 2002, when the Millennium Line opened and necessitated a differentiating name.
2. Flight attendant uniforms
Fancy Schmancy: SkyTrain attendants initially wore uniforms that resembled the uniforms of flight attendants. But this did not last long, as it only coincided with the World’s Fair.

3. Carpets seemed like a great idea at first ....
