Wednesday, May 12, 2021 Area residents gathered Saturday at the Jenkins Bridge in Barry County for a fundraiser that included duck races, food and music. The effort is to preserve the Jenkins Bridge, one of the few truss bridges remaining in the area. The structure was built in 1909, and has served not only to connect two pieces of land on either side of the creek, but to connect generations of families, as well. Sitting on the historic bridge watching the ducks float under the bridge below, from right, were: Emily Anders, Karen Cope, Dawn Cope, Ethan Anders and Tracy Anders. Coward seizes opportunity in the crease May 10, 2021 Chase Coward took full advantage of the opportunity when he was finally able to get in between the pipes for the Red Deer Rebels this season. Coward was a spectator for the first 18 games of the season before playing in four of the final five games to wrap up the 2020-21 season. He made his first start of the season on April 19 against the host Medicine Hat Tigers in a 3-2 loss. “I was super excited when I finally got told that I was going to get a start. I just wanted to go out there and prove to myself and to everyone else that I belonged in the league. I did that and then the starts kept coming in and the confidence just kept going up.” ....
Coward makes season debut with Rebels April 20, 2021 Swift Current’s Chase Coward made his season debut for the Red Deer Rebels on Monday. The 6’2’’ netminder made 32 saves on 35 shots as the Rebels lost 3-2 to the host Medicine Hat Tigers. Coward, 18, has been serving as the third goaltender with the Rebels behind Byron Fancy and Ethan Anders. Coward had an outstanding season with the Moose Jaw U18 AAA Warriors in 2019-20 as he finished with a 2.08 goals against average and a .930 save percentage in 27 games. He saw action in two games for the Rebels last season. The Rebels fell to 2-15-2-0, while the Tigers improved to 12-3-0-1. ....
