This comes at a time when Karnataka is reporting around 50,000 positive cases and the case fatality rate in eight districts has crossed 1%. “The idea is to ensure the 18 medical colleges are self-sufficient in oxygen production, and the process is being fast-tracked,” deputy chief minister and State Covid-19 Ministerial Task Force chief CN Ashwath Narayan told STOI. Three of the plants are in Bengaluru. The finance department has given its green signal to the Rs 62.7 crore proposal and tenders have been called. ....
HUBBALLI: Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation’s decision to drop the idea of laying synthetic athletic track in Nehru Stadium has not gone down well with the city’s sport enthusiasts. Sports enthusiasts are alleging that HDMC has dropped the project yielding to pressure from politicians. While the government is encouraging students to take part in sports activities by introducing Khelo India programme in all schools, the HDMC is trying to discourage sports enthusiasts from taking part in sports, they alleged. Speaking to STOI, 15-year-old Arjun, whois preparing for Khelo India School games said, “I am deeply hurt with the decision of authorities. We do not have suitable infrastructure to prepare for athletic events here”. ....
BENGALURU: Jesima Jalarmathi, a nursing officer at Nimhans, was ridden with fear after getting a call on Friday night asking her to be prepared to administer Covid-19 vaccines. “I have been a nurse for the last 21 years but this is a new vaccination and I was worried. I couldn’t sleep the entire night and kept praying to the Almighty throughout,” the 46-year-old vaccinator told STOI on Saturday after giving the jab to 38 people at Nimhans. The first dose was given to Nimhans director Dr G Gururaj, and Jesima said that she was jittery while administering the first injection but got over the initial fear afterwards. ....
