The unbelievable rollercoaster that is Michigan’s pandemic-era restaurant industry took a slight climb back toward normalcy this week when state health officials allowed a partial return to indoor dining.
The Feb. 1 reopening came with multiple limitations, including on capacity as well as hours. Once again, the changes put restaurant owners in the position of figuring out how to make a new approach work, all while maintaining strict safety standards. ....

Jessica Easterly Durning: Family needs answers as woman's body remains in morgue for OVER A YEAR [Exclusive] – Crime Online

It’s been over a year since Louisiana woman Jessica Easterly Durning was found deceased less than a mile away from her home. Her sister vows to never give up until she gets to the bottom of what happened to her.
Jessica was reported missing on August 14, 2019, after her husband, Justin Durning Jr., contacted one of her friends and claimed he couldn’t find his wife. Jessica’s sister, Audrey, told CrimeOnline that Durning messaged Jessica’s friend Maria Creel and claimed he hadn’t heard from Jessica in a few days.
Durning reportedly sent messages to Maria from Jessica’s phone. ....

Nonprofit Buys Frankfort Garden Theater, Plans to Restore and Reopen

‘It is a community treasure that brings people into the downtown’

A nonprofit in Benzie County has purchased the Garden Theater in downtown Frankfort.
Friends of the Garden Theater has been planning to purchase the historic building for years, after major infrastructure issues to the roof were found.
They planned to raise $2 million to purchase the theater and preserve it.
So far, the nonprofit has been able to raise more than half of that amount, and on Wednesday, they signed the ownership papers.
Rick Schmitt, chair of the Friends of the Garden Theater, says, “We’re looking forward to it, expanding programing and different offerings, more than movies is really what the theater is about, it’s the center of the community.” ....

Movie Theaters, Bowling Alleys Can Reopen with Restrictions

The rules require a maximum capacity of 100… as well as physical distancing between patrons… and a rule that food and drink concessions must remain closed.
For many small town movie theaters, the restrictions are just too much – and they still can’t open. Rick Schmitt with Frankfort’s Garden Theater says, “There’s no way to sugarcoat it. It’s not good. We really haven’t had any revenue since March. And that’s our choice. The reality for us is that particularly in winter it’s just such a beast to heat this building. If we can’t guarantee some revenue it’s better to keep it at 50 (degrees) and just not open.” ....
