The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has identified a woman who was struck by a train in Lawrence earlier this month.
The woman was severely injured after being hit by a train near Second and Indiana streets, near Burcham Park, around 11:25 p.m. Jan. 13. Despite first responders’ attempts at lifesaving measures, she died at the scene, the Journal-World previously reported.
The woman was Erica L. Puckett, 36, whose last known address was in Overland Park, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Jenn Hethcoat said via email Tuesday.
Hethcoat said Puckett’s family had been notified. The death investigation was still pending Tuesday as the sheriff’s office awaited the results of the coroner’s report, though it is “not being investigated as a suspicious death at this time,” Hethcoat said. ....
