- in 2008, i decided to leave music management and transition, expand my career into doing television. i realized that there was the hip hop world, the music world. and i knew that there was something about the lives that they were living, which would make for a great television show. and that was the genesis of love & hip hop . (energetic music) - guess who it is? (laughs) - mona put a lot of people in place that didn t pay attention to their life enough to take it that serious. that s a brilliant thing, and that s what producers are supposed to do. they supposed to make you see something in yourself that you didn t see in yourself. - it was challenging being a woman of color, launching a franchise, an ensemble cast show, the way the show gets pigeonholed, the way you know, i, as a content creator, sometimes gets pigeonholed. people think, well, this is all she has the ability to do. so in that sense, it has, at times, been somewhat limiting for me.
