A Guy Paid $400k To Put His Victorian House On Wheels And Move It 7 Blocks

Real estate broker and investor Tim Brown bought the house for $2.6 million back in 2013. For a while now, it was in his plans to move the building to its new location.
Now that it’s in place, Brown has ideas to transform the house into seven residential units. As for the place it has left behind there are plans for it to become the location of a new 48-unit apartment building.
While commenters were wondering how much outrage this must have caused wasting money on having to adapt the streets and causing somewhat of a traffic jam for those actually commuting others actually found this a positive move as it allows for smarter land development and the money boosts the economy. ....

Historic 1880s Victorian home in San Francisco known as Englander House moves to new location

A 141-year-old Victorian home was picked up and moved six blocks from Franklin Street to Fulton Street.
This is phenomenal to see this humungous seven-bedroom house being moved, said Wanda Ramos who lives near the home s original location.
Gary Carter lives near the new location and echoed those same thoughts. This is pretty big, pretty amazing, said Carter.
Sebastian Luke was one of the many who watched the entire move simply saying, It s a beautiful building.
And that beautiful historic building quickly took San Francisco and the internet by storm. Every angle being recorded by the hundreds of San Franciscans, many of whom compared it to the animated Pixar movie Up where a home was moved by balloons. ....

This 139-year-old house was wheeled through the streets of San Francisco

To move the Englander House it cost $400,000 (€329,000), but the mover said it was worth it to preserve the historical building.
A 48-unit, eight-storey apartment block will be built on the original site, while the house itself is going to be converted into seven residential flats.
The house was one of the last Victorian properties standing on Franklin Street, nestled between an empty lot and a petrol station.
Its new home is next to a historic former mortuary, which was moved a little over four metres to the side to make space for the Englander House.
