Maersk sues Glencore over bad bunkers

Danish logistics giant Maersk has filed a lawsuit against commodity trader Glencore Ltd over contaminated bunker fuel supplied to two of its containerships.
Based on the court documents filed on Friday, February 5, with the New York District Court, Maersk is seeking compensation worth $6 million for the damages its two vessels suffered in 2018 due to bad bunkers.
The containerships involved are reportedly Maersk Sofia and Maersk Aras which received the fuel in February 2018, in Panama.
Maersk Sofia allegedly suffered a total engine failure, while Maersk Aras suffered pump damage.
Offshore Energy-Green Marine has reached out to Maersk for a comment on the lawsuit and is yet to receive a statement. ....

Evergreen linked to order for twenty 15,000 TEU boxships

Taiwanese shipping major Evergreen Marine Line has reportedly placed an order for twenty 15,000 TEU containerships, broker reports indicate.
Five containerships have been booked at South Korean Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI), an additional five at China’s Hudong-Zhonghua, while the remaining 10 were ordered from the Japanese shipbuilder Imabari via a deal with Shoei Kisen, the yard’s shipowning and leasing arm.
Offshore Energy-Green Marine has reached out to Evergreen for a confirmation of the order.
“Evergreen continually studies various types of vessels and will place order or charter most suitable vessels depending on market requirement. Evergreen is continuing with fleet renewal program for the purpose of optimizing service quality and competitiveness,” the company said in an official statement. ....

Dryad: Eagle Bulk’s Ultramax boarded by pirates

An Ultramax bulker named Rowayton Eagle has been boarded by a group of pirates some 200 nautical miles of the coast of Accra, Ghana, Dryad Global informed.
The 2013-built bulker is listed in Eagle Bulk’s fleet.
The ship, which had been drifting since January 27th, was boarded on January 30 with the incident reportedly still ongoing.
“This the 7
th offshore incident this year and the third recorded offshore boarding. Total incidents throughout West Africa in 2020 showed a partial increase of 12% on those of 2019,” Dryad Global said.
“Incidents involving failed approaches showed a significant increase within 2020 with 25 such incidents recorded against 10 in 2019. Unsuccessful attempts at boardings are likely to increase desperation, particularly with incidents deep offshore distant from shore lines.” ....
