The resolution, which passed with a 5-2 vote, would allow food trucks to operate in the city limits for one year. However, the trucks would not be able to park within 50 feet of an existing restaurant without the business owner s permission. That raised concerns for the city s restaurant owners who are worried that out-of-town food trucks will create more competition with their businesses that are already struggling amid the economic downturn of the COVID-19 pandemic and restricted dining options. ....

Burien restaurants challenge food truck program amid COVID-19 losses KIRO 7 News Staff, Deborah Horne As local brick-and-mortar restaurants in Burien continue to struggle due to shutdowns and restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, some are moving to keep what they say is unfair competition from food trucks out of the mix. Popular Searches Burien is expected to approve a yearlong food truck pilot program Monday to determine if the trucks would be good for the city. The program would start in May. Under the pilot guidelines, the trucks could not park within 50 feet of an existing restaurant without permission. But two groups representing local restaurants, Empresarios Unidos and Restaurants of Burien, say that isn’t enough.
