Burien restaurant owners ask city to halt food truck pilot program, citing unfair competition

The Burien City Council passed a resolution to pilot a food truck program in the city on Monday despite over 50 brick-and-mortar restaurant owners signaling their opposition.
The resolution, which passed with a 5-2 vote, would allow food trucks to operate in the city limits for one year. However, the trucks would not be able to park within 50 feet of an existing restaurant without the business owner s permission.
That raised concerns for the city s restaurant owners who are worried that out-of-town food trucks will create more competition with their businesses that are already struggling amid the economic downturn of the COVID-19 pandemic and restricted dining options. ....
