THE Social Development Department say they are in process of finalising the Early Childhood Development stimulus employment relief fund payments.
Social Development spokeswoman, Lumka Oliphant, said following the national call from the Department of Social Development for all Early Childhood Development programmes to apply for the ECD Employment Stimulus Relief Fund (ECD-ESRF), verification and payments are now being processed for qualifying ECDs.
She said the department received 28 283 applications which translates to 125 407 staff members by the end of the closing date.
As part of the cleaning and removal of duplicate applications amongst others, the number of applications on the system is 25 571 applications with 116 102 staff members. ....

Since the launch of the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Employment Stimulus Relief Fund at the beginning of February, more than 27,000 applications from ECD programmes with more than 117,000 employees have been recorded, says the social development department.
“This is a significant achievement and also demonstrates how technology can assist in creating access to government services. ....

Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu gives an update on the relief funds for early childhood development centres.
Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu they have received 27,000 applications for the early childhood development (ECD) Employment Stimulus Relief Fund since they launched in February.
The aim of the fund is to offer relief to all types of ECD services including ECD centres and non-centre based ECD programmes.
Speaking to John Perlman, Zulu says they have started to identify where the ECDs are located.
What we are giving is not for the running of the ECDs. This money that is being given is to help those ECD practitioners to pay them something in their hands so they can be able to live. ....

The ECD sector is calling for an extension for applications for relief funding.
The ECD Stimulus Relief Fund makes R496 million available to assist ECD facilities affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, the application process is not user friendly, leading to delays, the industry has argued.
Organisations in the early childhood development (ECD) sector are calling on the government to extend the deadline for applications to the ECD Stimulus Relief Fund.
The deadline for applications is Friday and the process opened on 5 February. Payments are expected to be finalised before the end of the financial year on 31 March.

The R496-million fund aims to assist ECD facilities, including crèches, day care services and nurseries, that were hard hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. ....
