Anzac spirit: CQ leaders blown away at support for 2021 ceremony

Premium Content Subscriber only Following a year where community members were confined to their driveways for Anzac Day, was an “incredible” show of Australian spirit as the Emerald community gathered in the centre of town. Thousands made their way to the Emerald Cenotaph on Sunday morning to watch and take part in the 2021 Anzac Day March from Lions Park to the cenotaph, followed by the main service. Central Highlands Regional Council Mayor Kerry Hayes said the ceremony was “extremely well attended”, despite initial concerns that people would remain at home following last years inability to meet at the cenotaph. Emerald RSL sub-branch president Noel Mallyon and President of RSL Pioneer, Fitzroy, Highlands District Barry Vains OAM at the 2021 Emerald Anzac Day service.

The marching band led the charge followed by groups of all ages, from Lions Park around to the Emerald Cenotaph for the main service. Thousands of people were in attendance this year after being restricted to their driveways due to COVID restrictions in 2020. Photos

Premium Content Subscriber only Hundreds of people lined the streets surrounding the Emerald cenotaph on Sunday morning, April 25, to commemorate soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty. Students, emergency services and veterans were among the crowd that paid its respects at the 2021 Anzac Day Dawn Service at Emerald. Dolores Wilson was one of many community members who has been attending the Emerald Anzac Day Dawn Service for about 30 years. Hundreds of people lined the streets surrounding the Emerald Cenotaph for the 2021 Anzac Day Dawn Service. Joined by her husband and four children, Mrs Wilson said it was incredible to see so many young people in attendance and getting involved each year.
