That’s not holding back the number of projects applying: MeetMarket has had more than 550 applications this year. From these, MeetMarket has selected 55 projects, which will have the chance to present to more than 300 international funders, broadcasters, distributors, festival programmers and exhibitors. They will be seeking to follow in the footsteps of high-profile documentaries that have previously come through MeetMarket while looking for funding or partners, including Malik Bendjelloul’s “Searching for Sugarman,” Joshua Oppenheimer’s “The Act of Killing” and Nanfu Wang’s “One Child Nation.” ....

The competition may be tough, but leaving Fred Wisemanâs âCity Hallâ out of the best documentary Oscar short list is unforgivable. Sorry, his 2017 honorary award doesnât cut it. That aside, the documentary committee acquitted itself decently, which is probably not so great an accomplishment given the bounty to choose from (238 documentaries qualified for Oscar consideration this year, breaking the previous record of 170). Those that made the cut and received nominations are: âAll In: The Fight for Democracy,â âBoys State,â âCollective,â âCrip Camp,â âDick Johnson Is Dead,â âGunda,â âMLK/FBI,â� ....
Animal Collective’s Josh “Deakin” and Brian “Geologist” Weitz have scored a new documentary called Crestone, which follows a community of SoundCloud rappers living in the titular Colorado desert town. The film written, produced, and directed by Marnie Ellen Hertzler in partnership with Memory will get a PVOD release on Tuesday, February 16 (via Utopia Media). A few days later, on February 19, Domino Soundtracks will release Crestone (Original Score). Watch the Crestone trailer below and scroll down for the LP art and tracklist. Marnie Ellen Hertzler shot Crestone over the span of eight days. The film follows Hertzler as she visits an old high school friend, now known as Champloo Sloppy, and his fellow artists in Colorado.
