Tornado sirens going off in the midst of Tuesday s severe weather event caused sheer panic for some residents living in south Oklahoma City and El Reno. Oklahoma City officials told KOCO 5 that the tornado siren self-activated Tuesday because of an electric board that needs to be replaced. According to city officials, there are 182 sirens in their system, and, once or twice a year, they ll have a siren malfunction due to a problem with its motherboard.A contractor is now working to fix the problem.In El Reno, city officials received a similar call that a siren was going off around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Fairfax Lane. They said when that siren was reset, it accidentally set off another siren.The El Reno Fire Department is looking into the problem.The sirens coincidentally sounded off in the middle of severe weather in Oklahoma, causing some panic to nearby residents.
