German Factories Orders Get Boost from Major Airplane Orders

In Germany, factory orders for the month of December rose unexpectedly by 8.9% m/m compared to consensus expectations of -0.2%. The big jump was however largely due to some major orders related to airplane manufacturing. Looking past these orders, factory orders fell 2.2% m/m, which also appears more in line with German GDP shrinking 0.3% q/q in 2023Q4.

Eesti Pank: The recession is dragging on in Estonia - Estonian World Review

The latest economic forecast from Eesti Pank finds that the recession in the Estonian economy will last for longer than previously thought, mainly because Estonia’s export markets are in a poor position and competitiveness has been lost. The forecast expects the Estonian economy to shrink by 3.5% this year and by 0.4% in 2024, while faster growth is expected from 2025. The shrinking economy will see unemployment rise a little next year, though people’s purchasing power will improve as inflation has backed off.
