NORTH ADAMS â Keva Health, of Lexington, bested five other firms, including a company from Stockbridge, to finish first Friday in the Connect Tech Innovation Challenge produced by the startup accelerator and innovation network Lever. It was the fourth and final event in a series of COVID-19 challenges produced by Lever that focused on state companies developing products to help stop the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. Edgi Learning, of Stockbridge, was one of the six companies that had been selected as a finalist for the competition. Keva CEO and founder Jyotsna Mehta was awarded the $40,000 first-place prize bestowed on the winner of the final pitch contest, as determined by a panel of judges. PITTSFIELD â Like most businesses, the Berkshire Innovation Center had to pivot quickly in 2020. About two weeks after the $13.8 million facilityâs grand opening ceremony took place at the end of February last year, the COVID-19 pandemic caused the stateâs economy to shut down. âWe were thrown right into the water,â said BIC Executive Director Ben Sosne. The centerâs first year didnât go the way anybody thought it would. But, Sosne believes that, still, the first 12 months have been fruitful for the two-story 23,000-square-foot facility at the William Stanley Business Park of the Berkshires. âWe hoped to have bustling events and live things here at the BIC,â Sosne said. âBut, on the flip side, there was no better way for us to learn what weâre doing, if our goal is to help companies rapidly innovate and rapidly prototype and learn new technologies and adjust and be nimble.â ....
