Search continues for six Merced County Jail escapees The Merced County Sheriff s Department is asking for the public s assistance in finding six inmates who escaped from the Merced County Jail on Sunday. The six inmates were discovered missing from their cell from the downtown Merced County Jail just after midnight on Sunday. A preliminary investigation has determined that the inmates were able to gain access to the roof of the facility and utilize a homemade rope to scale down the side of the jail, according to the sheriff s department. The escaped inmates have been identified as: Jorge Barron, 20, of Atwater. He was jailed for a violation of probation. He is 5 feet 5 inches tall, 140 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes. ....
