After the remaining two out of six inmates who escaped from a California jail in January were apprehended in Arizona, a sheriff detailed at a press conference how they managed to escape in the first place six months ago.

The hunt for three inmates who escaped from the Merced County Jail continues as the sheriff’s department arrests people accused of aiding in the escape.
Three of the escapees have been apprehended, the Mercy County Sheriff’s Department reported.
The six inmates were discovered missing from their cell from the downtown Merced County Jail just after midnight on Jan. 10. A preliminary investigation has determined that the inmates were able to gain access to the roof of the facility and utilize a homemade rope to scale down the side of the jail, according to the sheriff s department.
Six Are Accused of Helping Fugitives Escape From California Jail
The defendants were identified as friends and relatives of six inmates who had escaped from a jail in Merced County this month. Three of the fugitives remain at large, the authorities said.

Six relatives and friends of six inmates who used a rope of braided bedsheets to break out of a California jail this month have been arrested and charged with helping the men escape, the authorities said.

Jan. 20 The Merced County Sheriff s Office arrested six people accused of helping inmates escape from the Merced County jail on Jan. 10.
The arrests were made by the Merced County Sheriff s Office, The United States Marshals Service, and the Department of Justice. Over the past week, investigators have learned that friends and family members of the escapees aided in their escape during and after their incarceration, the Merced County Sheriff s Office stated in a social media post.
Deputies identified those arrested as Sonia Montes, 46, of Merced, Elvira Aleman De Montes, 66, of Atwater, Alexia Hernandez-Ramirez, 20, of Atwater, Arthur Quirarte, 19, of Atwater, Rosario Coronado, 41, of Merced, and Raheem Hill, 28, of Merced.
