NMTI to receive $10.3M grant from US Commerce


WASHINGTON (U.S. Department of Commerce) — The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration is awarding a $10.3 million grant to Northern Marianas Technical Institute, Saipan, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, to support workforce education and training through the construction of a new facility to house the school’s trades program. This EDA grant is expected to create 410 jobs, retain 385 jobs, and generate $2 million in private investment.
“EDA is pleased to support Northern Marianas Tech’s construction of its new workforce career training facility,” said Dennis Alvord, acting assistant secretary of Commerce for Economic Development. “This project will help the Northern Mariana Islands respond to the economic impact of Super Typhoon Yutu by boosting training opportunities for citizens looking to compete for high-skill, high-wage jobs.” ....

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KFVS) - U.S. Senator Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) and three other senators have introduced bipartisan legislation to financially boost organizations involved with tourism, travel or other special events recover from the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.
The measure, Sustaining Tourism Enterprises During the COVID–19 Pandemic (STEP) Act, would would modify existing Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant programs to support to the tourism and travel industry. ....

NORTH MANKATO, Minn. (KEYC) A $74,552 Economic Development Administration grantis set to aid south central Minnesota manufacturers.
Democratic Sen. Tina Smith, of Minnesota, says the grant will help manufacturers and communities in the region recover from economic losses caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
“A lot of businesses have struggled with COVID. Some businesses have done just fine and others have been deeply challenged and this is a way of helping those businesses and helping those that work for them,” Smith stated. ....
