âVery goodâ prices for Phase III of the renovation of the Belmond-Klemme junior/senior high school mean the project should proceed. The three bids were reviewed at a special meeting of the school board April 22.
ââHenkel Construction of Mason City was the low bidder with a total price of $2,083,348. The project will include remodeling of the front office, vocal and instrumental music rooms, and new entrances for the office and Luick Memorial Auditorium.
ââWhile the bid was right around the architectâs estimate, there is still concern about the timely receipt of materials. Architect Ed Wineinger said there are months-long delays in certain building materials including steel joists and HVAC equipment. Wineinger said he will sit down with the contractor to hammer out a realistic schedule for the project. The original timelines called for the classrooms to be completed in mid-August and the office area at the end of November.
