It’s the 50th anniversary of Yolo Audubon’s participation in the Christmas Bird Count, a one-day winter census of birds counted in a 15-mile diameter circle on Dec. 20.
The first count was in 1900, but before that, people went out and shot birds on Christmas. We’ve advanced. Now we count. It’s another citizen-science event that helps us understand the status of birds. Normally, beginners are included but this will be a restricted year with small teams of one or two people. ....
