The Inter-Island Ferry Authority says it’s hiking its rates for people who buy their tickets in person, over the phone or by email. IFA General Manager Ron Curtis says a 6% surcharge on online ferry reservations means it’s currently cheaper to call or email the office or purchase a ticket in person. ....

(Ed Schoenfeld/CoastAlaska) The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says its latest guidance for cruise ship operators could allow passenger voyages to resume by midsummer. But travel industry leaders in Southeast Alaska are raising concerns about the CDC’s new rules.
Travel Juneau’s Liz Perry says a portion of the rules on shore excursions caught her eye. The CDC says cruise ship operators must “prohibit self-guided or independent exploration by passengers during port stops.” ....

The pandemic has fueled the demand for both renovations and the new home construction market, and supply has not kept up.
