The ANC in the Eastern Cape has raised the alarm about the dilapidated state of many provincial roads, with the party revealing that Bhisho was facing a maintenance funding deficit of R3bn. After meeting all the party’s mayors in the province in East London this week, the provincial ANC said it was a big concern that about 90% of provincial roads were still gravel, while a mere 10% had been surfaced.
Two Gqeberha matrics claimed the top two spots in the province after putting in an outstanding performance in the 2022 National Senior Certificate examinations.
ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa said the party’s 55th national conference needed to send a “very clear signal” that it was taking steps to resolve challenges facing the country such as the load-shedding and unemployment. Ramaphosa was addressing delegates on Thursday morning in hybrid format during the session for the continuation of the national conference which was adjourned in Nasrec, Johannesburg.
Outspoken ANC national executive committee member Andile Lungisa says he would have reduced SA’s nine provinces to four and the country’s 278 municipalities to 30 if he had powers. He was speaking to the media at East London ICC on Thursday afternoon on the sidelines of the ANC’s 55th national conference held in hybrid format.
