Were about 100 miles from the center of the storm but over the last 30 hours weve had winds that have been Tropical Storm force for some time and you can see the storm surge pushing the intercoastal waterway behind me into white caps that have grown increasingly froeshs a increasingly ferocious. When the surge comes in it could add another 2 feet and where im standing could be completely covered in water. Theyre still very concerned. Before we get back to the bahamas and whats happening there right now, lets get the latest on the forecast and the track of Hurricane Dorian. The National Hurricane center just put out its latest forecast with South Carolina and points north in the target zone now. Lets get to chad myers in the cnn weather center. Hes got the latest for us. Chad, whats the latest right now . Kate, right now the storm has turned slightly maybe five miles to the left. Really, of all the updates weve received over the past, what, i guess eight days, this really is just a minor tweak to the track. The biggest outtake from this is that were getting more and more bright white clouds around the middle of the eye. Weve seen that for about an hour now. They are deeply worried. The images and videos we are seeing are heartbreaking. Many homes and businesses and other buildings have been completely or partially destroyed. And in the United States, mandatory evacuations are under way in four states. The storm is predicted to turn north at some point. But people along the u. S. Coast are urged not to take any chances. Has already devastated one country, and its not over yet. For days Hurricane Dorian slowly tore through the bahamas. And we are getting a look at that destruction right now. Whole islands look like theyve been smashed with a wrecking ball. At least seven people were killed. Homes torn to shreds. Communities gutted. The Prime Minister says his country is facing a national crisis. The National Airport in abaco is underwater. The runway is completely flooded. And in fact, the area around the airport now looks like a lake. Knot harbor has suffered i would say an estimate of 60 damage to the homes. The mud, as we know, has been completely destroyed or decimated. And as the people of the bahamas struggle, dorian is rolling on. The hurricane has gotten weaker over the past 24 hours.
