have been shot and killed in a u.s. marshal s task force serving a warrant in east charlotte, north carolina. just getting these breaking details. news conference ongoing. correspondent jonathan serrie has been following the latest tonight from atlanta, our southeast newsroom. good evening, jonathan. good evening, bret. charlotte mecklenburg police say the scene is now safe for residents. they no longer need to shelter in place. but the shooting is exacted a heavy toll. police in that ongoing news conference confirming just moments: aid officers were shot in this incident and that three law enforcement officers were killed. of the surviving officers one of them is listed in critical condition. of a u.s. marshal s service. but also members of law enforcement agencies. they were attempting to serve a warrant for a firearms violation. some sort of weapons charge on a resident, when this suspect, allegedly opened fire on them. police say the officers returned fire. killing the

crime alert, six people total are hurt in four separate shootings across charlotte. you can see where they happened on this map, we pin pointed them with red boxes from west to northwest charlotte. the first one happening around 4:30 yesterday afternoon. the last about seven hours later. the latest of those shootings breaking overnight, a woman shot in the leg on brooktree drive not far from freedom drive. happened at 11:30 last night. police say the victim drove herself two miles down the road to darby avenue near the brookshire freeway. police aren t sure what led up to that shooting. they do not believe this incident was connected to any of the other shootings. john: two of the shootings happened not far from each other in east charlotte. one at 5:30 on the plaza, the other two-and-a-half hours later at barrington and milton road. mark davenport joins us now live from charlotte-mecklenburg police headquarters, so mark, a the shootings connected? reporter: john, i got o
