(MURFREESBORO) At 11:00 o’clock Thursday morning (2/29/2024), a Leap Year day gathering erupted in tears, laughter and applause as Rita Shacklett entered the room. It was the final day for the retiring director. The message on the cake said it all, “48-years, a beautiful career in the books.”

Brand New Bookmobile Arrives to Serve Rutherford County

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - After a 2-year wait. That was Rutherford County Library Director Rita Shacklett, talking about the brand-new and much anticipated Bookmobile that arrived on Tuesday.
Around 2-years ago, bookmobile staff and library board members identified a long list of necessary repairs to the old bookmobile. After adding up the cost of fixing the vehicle, the decision was made to retire the old bookmobile and order a new one.

Public Library Usage CHANGES Dec. 13 For Patrons Age 18 and Younger

(MURFREESBORO) If you're age 18 or younger and have a library card for any of the Rutherford County Public Library locations, there will be some changes that take effect on Dec. 18, 2023. It only impacts juvenile card holders.
Rutherford County Library System's Director Rita Shacklett said, "This change is in response and in effort to comply with state and local ordinances."
