Nagaland joined the world in observing “World No Tobacco Day” under 2023 theme, “We Need Food, Not Tobacco” by organising various programmes to raise awareness on the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use on May 31. The day also highlighted the “Tobacco Free Home” campaign.
Dimapur, Nov. 16 (EMN): The Mon district tobacco control cell (DTCC) organised a one-day training on the guidelines for implementation of Tobacco Free Educational Institutions (ToFEI) for teachers and officers from Police and Education departments at DRDA conference hall in Mon town on November 15. An update from DTCC, Mon, informed that Dr. Amenla, junior dental specialist at District Hospital, Mon, has highlighted on the harmful effects of tobacco consumption. She stressed on the passive and third-hand smoking. She also highlighted on the effects of chewing betel nuts and stated that use of betel nuts increase the risk of cancer especially mouth cancer. E Nyeamying Konyak, district consultant of DTCC Mon, briefed the participants about the guidelines of ToFEI and emphasised on the role of the school management and authorities for the effective implementation of ToFEI guidelines.
