karen tumulty, national political correspondent for the washington post, amy is national editor for the cook political report. amy, first to you, how did the press do today at the press conference? well, that was you saw the highlight right there. look, the focus for the press was about the russia story that had broken overnight. there was very little focus on other things. we heard a little bit about the wall. was it a real story? it s a real story he was briefed, the president was briefed on a piece of information that came from sources we don t know. all denied who s all denying? the intel is denying it, too, they were in there. i don t know. i don t think they denied it was in the report. so it s right, there s so many pieces around. you know what it felt a lot like, to me, was the first press conference that hillary clinton had when she had to answer the e-mail questions and it was 5,000 questions about the e-mails, we got a couple of questions in there
these questions get you a little bit closer to figuring it out. in the absence of any other discussion about hillary clinton, yes, this is going to be have an impact on her numbers. she has to move beyond it by talking about what she is, what she represents, the kind of narrative and the purpose of her candidacy. but she also has to speak in a candid way about who she is as well. i think the character questions are more important than the e-mail questions. so she has to establish what kind of leader she would be. and i think for many democrats, and this may just be anecdotal, you may be seeing it in the numbers. the problem ant e-mails is that it won t go away. she has to it put it to rest as an assertion of of her own strength and that strength is what people are going to want to see tomorrow night. listen to what president obama said about the e-mail controversy last night on 60 minutes. i don t think it posed a national security problem. i think it was a mistake that she s
