IEDA announces awards for projects that will create 407 jobs
BY BUSINESS RECORD STAFF Monday, July 19, 2021 10:43 AM The Iowa Economic Development Authority has awarded more than $8 million in incentives to five companies for projects that will create more than 400 jobs.
The IEDA board also announced innovation funding for two startups during its meeting on Friday.
Industrial and farm equipment manufacturer Vermeer Corp. in Pella was awarded more than $2.2 million in tax refunds and credits for a planned project, including the construction of a new parts distribution facility at its Pella campus. The project represents a capital investment of nearly $44 million.
According to IEDA documents, the project is needed to accommodate growth and to separate parts and aftermarket support from the manufacturing process, helping to increase overall efficiency in the operation.

The Gresham City Council has selected three finalists for the position of city manager and is seeking community input and involvement in next steps.
Mayor Travis Stovall will host a virtual community forum on Wednesday, April 21, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. to introduce the finalists: Jamal Fox, Patrick Quinton and Nina Vetter.
Following the first round of interviews for the city manager position earlier in 2021, the City Council re-opened the recruitment process, which remains open until filled. In total, 37 candidates who applied by March 22 were considered for this phase of the process.

ELLICOTTVILLE, N.Y. - Dana Fitzpatrick, chairman of the board of Fitzpatrick & Weller Inc., passed away on Dec. 18. He was 90.
A longtime fixture in the woodworking industry, Fitzpatrick capped his 66-year career by leading the wood components manufacturer s celebration of its 125th anniversary in 2020. In addition to his leadership role at the company, Fitzpatrick was a former director of the National Hardwood Lumber Association, Hardwood Manufacturers Association, and the American Forest and Paper Association. He served as chairman of the American Hardwood Export Council and the National Forest Products Association. The company is also a member of the Wood Products Manufacturers Association and the Wood Component Manufacturers Association.
