Wayne David Gunderson, affectionately known as Dave, left this world on Thursday, December 14th, 2023, after courageously battling cancer for two and a half years. Surrounded by his loving family at Essentia St Mary’s in Duluth, MN, Dave, 73, passed peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and unwavering kindness.
Thomas A. Vecchi, age 96, of Duluth, MN died on April 7, 2023, at Solvay Hospice House after a brief illness. Thomas (Tom) was born in Hibbing, MN on March 24, 1927, son of John and Adele Vecchi, who were born in Italy and immigrated from Luxembourg in 1920 and settled on the Iron Range. After his junior year at Hibbing High School, Tom enlisted in the Navy to fight in World War II, serving with the Amphibious Forces, on an LCI ship, in the South Pacific. After the war, Tom returned to Hibbing to complete high school and then went on to St. John’s University and University of Minnesota School of Architecture. Tom began his architectural career in Minneapolis, MN, joining the firm of Thorshov and Cerny, Architects. During this time, Tom met the love of his life, Jeanne Arlene Dugdale from South Minneapolis. They were married May 16, 1953, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Minneapolis (married 62 years). Robert E. “Bob” Peterson, 92, of Duluth, passed away on Saturday April 1, 2023, at Waterview Shores, in Two Harbors. He was born on April 12, 1930, in Duluth, MN to Edmund and Martha Peterson. Bob graduated a year early (1947) from Duluth Central High School and joined the US Navy serving during the Korean War on the USS Bergall (SS-320). He always said if the Navy ever called, he would go back in a heartbeat. In 1952, Bob married Kaye McClenaghan, and together, they raised and showed AKC Champion Schipperkes and Dalmatians for 17 years until the birth of their only child, Rachel, in 1969.
