Introduce you to ben muchler our featured speaker for this evening. Ben is an associate professor of history at Oregon State university. He received his ba from harvard and actually played music professionally for a period of time after graduating. He then went on to Columbia University where he received his phd in american history. Ben has been a fellow at multiple institutions including the american antiquarian society, massachusetts historical society and the omahaundra institute. This is bens first book and let me just hold it up here. Its called the province of Affliction Illness in the making of early new england. So i will turn it over to ben so he can go over some of the main themes of the book before we go into our discussion in Q A.
