dead, 28 others injured and several of those injured in critical condition as of this morning. in fact, within the last hour, we had a chance to speak with someone who says they are a family member of one of those shot. she says her niece was shot twice, 16 years old. but by the time she got there, her niece was already discharged. you can imagine with this many victims, how many family members are scrambling to find more information on their loved ones. we know this is not the only hospital where people were taken. certainly, a chaotic scene here today in baltimore. so, just to lay out the scene, this happened according to police, around 12:30 this morning in baltimore as brooklyn neighborhood, for those not familiar, that is just south of the downtown inner harbor. and you know we understand that this neighborhood celebration of block party. and the scary and unsettling part of all of this is we understand that people thought that the gunshots were fireworks. and unfortunately, they
28 were injured. and several in critical condition as of this morning. still waiting more details but let s talk about what we know unfolded last night. we understand this happen around 12:30 in baltimore as brooklyn neighborhood, it s south of the downtown inner harbor, south baltimore. and we understand this was during a neighborhood block party. and you ll see some of these images on your screen. you ll see scattered debris, cops, signs of what was clearly a joyous celebration before the sound of gunshots. and really disturbing so many people reported hearing what they thought were fireworks. and only finding out later that they were gunshots. and fleeing for their lives leaving everything behind as you can see on the streets here. baltimore s mayor brandon scott has been in office since 2020 pleading with anyone who knows anything to come forward. as of last check there was no suspects who have been publicly identified. again, the press conference hopefully might give us more det
baltimore where we were yesterday, it doesn t look like it s reaching out there. that s right. it s sort of a derivation of of trickle-down economics of the 80s perhaps. if you look at baltimore in the 80s and early 90s, it was going through the rejuvenation, dollar house program in federal hill harborplace, camden yards, all of which by the way were controversial at the time. yep. public referendums that were fairly close, state legislature votes that were close. and because of the bravery of certain politicians, those projects were pushed through. and if you look at as you say, the periphery of the baltimore inner harbor it s wonderful. if people come here as tourists they re completely safe. there s no crime problem here in those areas if you re a tourist. but if you live in poor neighborhoods in baltimore, because every criminologist study you look at the overwhelming majority of crime is perpetrated by poor people on other poor people not poor people on middle clas and we
