Updated 12/29/2020 3:22 PM The man killed during a Christmas Eve fire in Elgin has been identified as 56-year-old Douglas Hagen. Hagen was pronounced dead at 7:15 a.m. Thursday at Sherman Hospital, according to the Kane County coroner s office. The coroner is waiting for results of carbon monoxide testing before declaring a preliminary cause of death, according to a news release.
The fire was reported at 6:31 a.m. in a townhouse in the 0-100 block of Creekside Circle. Firefighters found heavy fire in a second-floor unit. They located Hagen and took him to the hospital. ....

The first fatal fire happened Christmas Eve at a townhome in the first block of Creekside Circle, the Elgin Fire Department said in a statement. The victim was identified as 56-year-old Douglas Hagen by the Kane County coroner’s office. Firefighters were called about 6:30 a.m. and found a heavy fire on the second floor, the department said. Crews found Hagen in the building and took him in critical condition to Sherman Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Hagen was the only victim of the fire, which damaged four townhome units with an estimated loss of $300,000, the department said. ....
