Massillon voters who closely follow Washington High School football will see familiar names on the November election ballot.
The Stark County Board of Elections on Monday voted to certify five nonpartisan candidates for the Nov. 2 ballot.
Two of the candidates are a father and son who are both seeking to serve on Massillon City Council. They both were quarterbacks for Washington High.
Lee Hurst, 50, is running to be Massillon council member at large. Hurst will seek one of three council seats in a five-person race.
Hurst, who also was a kicker as well as quarterback, led Washington High School to the state semifinals in 1989. He later became a head high school football coach at Crestline High School in Crawford County in 2013 and West Muskingum High School in Zanesville in 2016. He also was a girls softball coach at McKinley High School in 2015 and was an assistant freshman football coach for Washington High in 2015. ....
