Delaware lawmakers announce bill requiring body cameras on all police

Lawmakers on Thursday announced they are filing a bill that would require all police officers in Delaware to wear body cameras.
House Bill 195 by Rep. Sherry Dorsey Walker, D-Wilmington, would require all police officers and certain employees from the Department of Correction and Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families to wear the cameras.
The governor, the attorney general, the Statehouse s majority party, activists and police support the statewide body camera mandate  all but ensuring it s a done deal in Delaware. Lawmakers are likely to pass the bill before the legislative session ends June 30.
On Thursday, Attorney General Kathy Jennings called the body camera policy a top priority in building trust and accountability in policing. ....

Bill requires Delaware schools to have Black history curriculum

Tariah Hyland learned about slavery and Black civil rights icons like the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks during her 12 years in Delaware public schools.
“And then if we’re lucky, Malcolm X,’’ Hyland told WHYY News. “Even then we still aren’t really taught the truth about their work and what they fought for. It’s almost like watered down and diluted knowledge about these very powerful leaders.”
So Hyland, a senior at St. Georges Technical High School who co-founded the Delaware Black Student Coalition, jumped at the chance to help make Black history part of the mandatory curriculum in K-12 schools, rather than merely an afterthought or part of February’s Black History Month lessons. ....
