Financial close achieved, EPC named for 100MW / 150MWh Wandoan South ESS in Queensland

Vena Energy Australia has achieved financial close for its 100MW / 150MWh Wandoan battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Queensland and named Doosan GridTech as engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) partner.
The local arm of Singapore-headquartered independent power producer (IPP) Vena Energy, focused on renewable energy projects in wind and solar across the Asia-Pacific region, signed a 15-year contract for operational dispatch rights to the Wandoan project with major Australian utility AGL, announced towards the beginning of this year.
Vena Energy said this morning that it has now achieved financial close for what will be the Australian state of Queensland’s largest battery project so far. It revealed that construction had begun in October on the AU$120 million project, located in the Western Downs region of Queensland. ....

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction said Tuesday that its American subsidiary Doosan GridTech has won a bid to build an energy storage system (ESS) in Queensland, Australia.
The 100 billion won deal, signed with Singapore-based Vena Energy, is the largest ESS project that the Doosan Heavy unit has ever obtained.
Vena Energy is a renewable energy developer operating in the Asia-Pacific region with projects in Australia, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Japan. ....

Vena Energy Australia is developing the project near Wandoan.
The energy storage system will play a “major role” in improving grid stability and supporting the state s shift to renewable energy.
Vena Energy Australia head Anil Nangia said: “As our first grid-scale energy storage project, the Wandoan South BESS in South West Queensland required an EPC partner that carries Doosan s expertise depth and market credibility.
We view Doosan as a long-term partner who shares our desires to accelerate the transition to renewable energy in the Asia-Pacific region and to enrich local economies and communities.
Doosan will deliver a customised battery building that will efficiently manage the safety, protection, and ambient temperature control for more than 20,000 lithium ion batteries. ....
