SHARING OPTIONS: A significant bounce in powder and butter sales helped reinforce western-based Aurivo’s financial results for 2020. Aurivo’s dairy ingredients business is mainly made up of butter and powder sales. Aurivo produces a lot of enriched powders, which essentially are dried milk with the fat percentage increased with the addition of varying levels of vegetable oil. Aurivo sell this product in Africa, which is a growing market. Once it lands in Africa, the powder is sold in small local stores. Turnover in dairy ingredients jumped from €172m to €198m The African consumer takes the powder home where water is added again. This product is used as a substitute for milk in Africa, where they can’t get ‘normal’ milk as Irish consumers know it. ....

Sligo-based dairy co-op Aurivo said its business delivered a strong financial performance in 2020, despite the ongoing pandemic, achieving record sales and increasing its operating profit significantly. The dairy, which includes the Connacht Gold and the Donegal Creameries brands in its product line-up, said sales rose 9.4 per cent to €488.7 million, with operating profit before exceptional items increased to €8.5 million, up 170 per cent. The 2019 figures included exceptional costs of €6.4 million, which comprised an impairment charge of €5.96 million on goodwill in its For Goodness Shakes brand, €1.3 million in restructuring costs, and settlement gains on its defined benefit pension of €868,000. Exceptional costs for 2020 were €152,000. ....

The Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan has announced that he will not be proceeding with the appointment of Aaron Forde as chairman of Shannon Group. Mr Ryan had announced his appointment earlier on Tuesday. In a phone conversation later on Tuesday, Mr Ryan indicated that Mr Forde’s use of social media was “below the standard expected of the chair of a state board.” “This is an important time for Shannon Group, which has to chart a way through the crisis caused by the pandemic and plan for recovery. The Department of Transport will work to appoint a new chair as quickly as possible,” a spokeswoman said. ....
