Massive water pipe rupture in hayward last sunday. A rupture that occurred right along this fault. It ripped this street creating a large sink hole and creating a fast moving river of water, mud and rocks. Check this picture, it shows where the fault is relative to the pipe failure. This one was taken before sundays break of a suring right across the street that shifted due to seismic creep. Bill says its happening all the time on the hayward fault. Its moving about a fifth of an inch a year, that doesnt sound like much, but in 40 years, thats getting close to 10 inches of motion. And so 10 inches of motion is enough to stretch some pipes. Reporter hayward city spokesman chuck finney agrees, the failure was most likely caused by Seismic Movement and the old pipe was installed about 40 years ago. We have seen going through the San Mateo Police department, the District Attorneys Office investigators and the county Coroners Office, all out here where they say three chp officers in three different vehicles pulled up and ended up firing their weapons. San mateo police cars and chp vehicles blocked all lanes of highway 101 north surrounding a dark pickup truck. A yellow tarp was nearby on the ground. One suspect dead. In what police said was an officerinvolved shooting that happened just after 5 30 p. M. Friday. The suspect was fatally wounded in the officerinvolved shooting. Reporter investigators say the suspect was armed with a handgun and got into a confrontation with three chp officers from the redwood city office. All three discharged their firearms. The interesting contrast today was the speed with which this jury reached that guilty verdict and the months of time that this case spent in courtrooms and the five long years since sierra lamar disappeared on her way to that bus stop back in 2012. When i talked with Marlene Lamar about half an hour ago as she was leaving the courthouse to go home, i heard in her voice the same emotion that i heard five years ago had she was talking about her daughter having disappeared.
