Mucci Accolades Well Deserved
Mar 12, 2021
When former Steubenville Mayor Domenick Mucci Jr. brought the gavel down on his final City Council meeting, the curtain fell on a career of political involvement that spanned nearly 40 years.
Members of council at the time, January 2018, never formally had the chance to thank him for his service, as they were working to help residents and businesses navigate through a crisis that left a large portion of the downtown without water.
It’s appropriate, then, that the current City Council honored Mucci not just once, but twice during the last several weeks. The first came when council voted to rename Steele Avenue the location of his family’s longtime business Mucci Way; the second happened when members on Feb. 23 presented him with a resolution recognizing his accomplishments.

Members of council at the time, January 2018, never formally had the chance to thank him for his service to the city and numerous community organizations they were tied up trying to help residents and businesses navigate through a crisis that left a large portion of the downtown without water for many days.
It’s appropriate, then, that the current City Council recently honored Mucci not just once, but twice during the last several weeks. The first came when council voted to rename Steele Avenue, the location of his family’s longtime business, Mucci Way, and the second happened when members on Feb. 23 presented him with a resolution recognizing his accomplishments.

STEUBENVILLE Members of City Council never had the opportunity to thank former Mayor Domenick Mucci Jr. for his service to the community when he stepped down from the post three years ago.
They made up for that during Tuesday’s meeting, offering a resolution recognizing him for the 36 years he spent in city government and his other work in the community.
“It has taken us three years to do this,” said 5th Ward Councilman Willie Paul while making the presentation.
STEUBENVILLE City Council ratified a new, three-year deal with AFSCME Local 2015, Tuesday.
The contract, which takes effect upon signature of the mayor, maintains wages at the status quo for Year 1, though the union can execute a reopener clause in July to see if the typical 2.2 percent wage hike is doable.
With the AFSCME contract settled, council can turn its attention to negotiations with police and firefighter unions.
The ordinance, brought to the floor as emergency legislation, passed unanimously.
Council also heard the first reading of an ordinance extending City Manager Jim Mavromatis’s contract for two years, through March 28, 2023. It, too, will hold the line on wages, at least for the first year.
