MCD on registering dogs: Senior officials of the veterinary department of MCD said that Delhi Municipal Corporation Act mandates registration of pet dogs with civic body, but residents have remained reluctant to come forward to get their pets registered .
Data shows India recorded over 1.5 crore animal bite cases since 2019. The highest number of cases were recorded in Uttar Pradesh, followed by Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and West Bengal
Only the month of January 2022 has recorded more than 4,000 such cases. Of these, 3,773 people have needed treatment in hospitals in just a month. In January 2022, the dogs have broken the record of the years 2016-2021.
