The privacy of oneâs online information is becoming a popular topic lately thanks in part to Netflixâs âThe Social Dilemmaâ. While I confess I have yet to see the documentary, I am very much aware of the value your personal information brings to internet companies such as Google, Twitter, and Facebook and why protecting it is important.
Targeted marketing allows these companies to focus their advertising directly to the people who are looking for it or posting about it online. It becomes extremely lucrative for companies when they can focus their efforts on the thousands of people who search for fishing lures rather than the millions of people who do not.
Notion, the online workspace startup that was last year valued at over $2 billion, was knocked offline after a DNS outage. The collaborative online office and document service was not loading as of around 9 a.m. ET on Friday, preventing anyone who relies on the service from accessing their cloud-stored data. In a since-deleted tweet, Notion asked if "any users have a contact at Name.com," the web host that Notion relies on for its domain name.
