Norway has accepted over 32,000 mostly Ukrainian refugees so far this year, according to Norwegian government figures. The non-EU country expects to take in a similar number in 2023.
"Welcome culture" runs into resource realities: Already short-staffed and stretched thin, regional officials around Germany say their refugee efforts are getting to be too much.
The latest figures available show that, as of the end of September, 171,546 Ukrainian refugees have arrived in Italy due to the ongoing war. Italy's civil protection has allocated an additional €40 million to increase the availability of municipal services.
