senators and white house aides that he would move to alabama and compete against sessions himself in the primary, which would be weird and i guess not interesting. so the question is will the president go to war to the person most likely to carry the state and we could find out on saturday when trump will attend the football game in tuscaloosa. after the loud boos in the world series and somewhat amazingly at the ufc fight. and that may be where trump goes after sessions in what trump views his disit ll and extends his unlikely tenure in the senate at least six years longer. tenure in the senate at least six years longer pursuing life-changing cures in a country that fosters innovation here, they find breakthroughs. like a way to fight cancer by arming a patient s own t-cells. because it s not just about the next breakthrough.
there s another thing they think people don t know, and that is what day it is. this is now the end of august of an election year in which the republicans are probably going to do quite badly. president trump throughout this struggle with robert mueller has had a political strategy. to defame and denounce the investigation, to try to disit, discredit it and to hold on to enough republicans to gird him against whatever mueller reveals. but that political strategy looks like it s going to pay diminishing dividends after november. the president now needs a legal strategy and he hasn t got a very good one because firing jeff sessions simply means a giant battle over the confirmation of the next attorney general before a senate that is almost certainly going to be less republican than the present senate. and even if the republicans hold the senate, those hearings are going to be embarrassing. they are going to involve a huge national debate. and it is going to be very hard for the republi
