PROVIDENCE — The director of the department that runs Rhode Island’s “hospital of last resort” is resigning effective this week amid uncertainty and turmoil over the future of the state-run institution.

A. Kathryn Power, the director of the Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals, said in a letter dated March 28 to Governor Dan McKee that she was resigning effective Friday due to a family member’s recently diagnosed health issues. ....

The director of Rhode Island’s Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals, or BHDDH, has resigned.
NBC 10 News on Monday learned that Kathryn Power submitted letter of resignation to Gov. Dan McKee.
“Due to a family member’s recently diagnosed health issues, I am submitting my resignation effective April 9, 2021,” Powers noted, in part, in the letter, which is dated March 28.
“It has been an honor to serve you and the state of Rhode Island and I wish you the very best in all your future endeavors,” she stated in closing. ....
