Loan Rangers: Kelly stars again Share article:
IN what was the penultimate round of league fixtures for many of our loan Rangers, it was shot stopper Liam Kelly and his Motherwell side that caught the headlines as they continue their push up the Scottish Premiership.
A fine 2-0 victory over Kilmarnock on Saturday, a win which included another superb display from the R’s loanee saw ‘the Well’ clinch their third consecutive league victory since the league split last month.
Devante Cole and Stephen O’Donnell got the goals, but a great performance from Kelly in between the sticks saw the 25-year-old being on hand to deny former Norwich City man Kyle Lafferty on numerous occasions, ensuring that Kelly was able to hold on to yet another clean sheet.
Loan Rangers: A week of dramatic comebacks Share article:
IN another week full of exciting clashes up and down the country for our loan Rangers, comebacks were the order of the weekend, with three of our R’s featuring in dramatic fight backs.
After being 3-1 down with twenty five minutes left on the clock, Smyth’s 67
th minute arrival instantly paid dividends, with Stanley pulling a goal back within a minute of the Irish winger being on the pitch.
Sean McConville then snatched the dramatic equaliser five minutes from time, ensuring Stanley returned with a share of the points.
Loan Rangers: Kelly’s penalty heroics Share article:
IN a week full of exciting clashes up and down the country for our loan Rangers it was shot stopper Liam Kelly who caught the headlines with a stunning penalty save.
On the back of their fantastic Scottish Cup win, Motherwell’s attention switched back to the league, as they welcomed St Mirren to Fir Park.
In an even game, the R’s loanee was on hand to deny Jamie McGrath from 12 yards out mid-way through the first half. Before Devante Cole wrapped up the victory for the Well.
As we head back down south, both Mide Shodipo and Paul Smyth were in action for Oxford United and Accrington Stanley respectively, with Shodipo having a more enjoyable week than Smyth.
Loan Rangers: Smyth on target for Stanley Share article:
IN an Easter weekend full of exciting clashes, it was attacker Paul Smyth who caught the headlines for our loan Rangers.
With Smyth’s Accrington Stanley coming up against fellow loanee Mide Shodipo and his Oxford United side on Easter Monday, it was attacker Smyth who came out on top.
Heading into this one a goalless draw with Burton Albion for Stanley on Good Friday saw Smyth playing 84 minutes, whilst a 3-1 defeat to Sunderland for Oxford, saw winger Shodipo withdrawn in the 75
th minute for the U’s.
However, on Monday Smyth’s fourth strike of the season got Stanley underway and a second-half effort from Michael Nottingham ensured that John Coleman’s side sealed the victory and remain in the hunt for the play-off places, whilst Oxford now sit a point below them, having played a game more.
